Memories

The Haught Family....... Joe Haught, I vaguely remember going out on horseback with your Dad, my Dad and maybe one or two others. It seems that it was in the mountains close to Young (maybe off down toward Cherry Creek from Board Tree Saddle) I can not remember the purpose of the ride (I think that I heard somewhere that my Dad and your Dad had some mining interest somewhere.) The main thing I remember about the trip is that we seen a big black bear (dead) up fairly high in a tree. I don't know what year it was but I am guessing that it was in the early fifties when I was in my early teens.

Just meandering through my mind.....I had a really nice Christmas and New Year with my family here in Tucson, AZ--My grand-niece (my half brothers grand daughter) who also lives in Tucson came over to a family gathering at my ex wifes home and I was able to get to know her and her family a bit more.  We only got acquainted about a year ago.

Getting late so off to bed I go----to dream about my "CAN MAN" days.........

Memories, Birthdays and Such

The Can Man Before Prostrate Cancer

My Dad Van Baker and My Daughter Maria Teresa Creighton

Family Picture taken at my daughter's home in Tucson a few years ago.
September 3rd (yesterday) was my Dad's Birthday.  In the latter years of his life we would have a family re-union on his birthday at the Rock House Trailer Park where he lived every year.

My friend Betty Gilbert finally became unable to live alone so she was able to get into Faubush Homes (an assisted living place) in Globe, AZ.  I have been able to visit her a few times there and I try to have phone contact with her at least once a week. Her and I both have birthdays in November, I will be 79 and she will be 81.

Not Getting Any............Younger!!!

Well, here it is 2015-----probably a heck of a lot happened since my last post but you know how us old farts don't remember much.  Like I should have posted up here at least 5 or 6 times, but guess what----it didn't happen!!  We still have the five dogs surviving in our back yard here on Mary Drive in Tucson. They depend a lot on me because the grandkids only want to play with them and not have to take care of them. My long time friend, Betty Gilbert got to where she couldn't drive anymore and had a problem living alone so she finally got to move into a care center out in Ice House Canyon in the Globe, AZ area.  They take her social security check and in return give her food, housing and medical care.  I talk to her about once a week on the telephone.  She has TV but can only watch what the staff allows and the sound is turned down real low so as to not bother other people in the area.  So she can only view and not hear the programs.

I am still a diehard Phoenix Suns Basketball fan and again hoping that they will get in the playoffs this year.  They failed last year.

During the late summer last year (or early fall) my niece April got married and we were able to attend a big reception at a nice park up in the Phoenix area.  A lot of the family were there so it was a nice "get together".

I am probably not remembering something else important that has happened but I have an excuse.....I am getting old!! Love to all and God Bless from Virgil (gino) Baker aka "The Can Man"

Oh yes!! Now where was I ???

May 21, 2014......I got lost along the way and just showed up today.  One hundred degree days are starting.  Cooler is on HIGH!!  I still have five dogs living in the back yard.  On the hotter days, I try to make sure that they get wet down with a spray hose 2 or 3 times a day.  Hear sirens in the distance getting closer.  A common happening these days.  Basketball season is coming to an end soon.  My Phoenix Suns never made it to the playoffs.  So sad!  I am now looking at Indiana Pacers (my Mom was born in Indiana) and Oklahoma Thunder (I have friends in Oklahoma, reason enough to want them to win, right?)  Time to feed my five dogs, maybe they can wait a few minutes.....One of them, Regalo (my fathers day gift about 6 years ago) was today trying to scratch around his collar area.  I tried to help him and noticed that he had a scabbed over ring under the collar about half way around his neck.  I could not get the collar off so I pulled out my old trusty box cutter knife and sliced it apart.  After examination, I put some Burts Bees ResQ Ointment on the whole area (to the best of my ability as my 77 years allows me).  I hope that it helps. I plan on doing it again maybe in the morning.  I can hear them (the dogs) barking so maybe I can get another post up here a little sooner next time!!!!  God Bless......the can man, Virgil (gino) Baker......

Post Script: 5/29/2020 (Yep, I'm still around at 83 years young).....I mentioned 5 dogs in the above paragraph. Only one (1) of those 5 is still alive...that would be Sheila which is the last one of those five that we acquired during that time period.  We have acquired 2 more so now have a total of 3. The world is still "going to the dogs!!" (smile)
