Backyard War Zone

1st pic is a daylite shot of our home
in Tucson on Halloween Day.
Our back yard is full of holes that the five dogs have managed to dig.  Half blind old men and dog dug holes, sometimes don't mix.  See narration below.
This one happened about a week ago when the dogs decided to get into a fight with each other.  I found it difficult to pull the dogs apart and stay upright on my feet!!!!
Narration:  This morning, after the dogs were fed, I was ambling back toward the house when unbeknownst to me--a dog-dug hole appeared out of nowhere.  Trouble is that I did not see it appear and instead of stepping on solid ground--I went down and down and down--on my knees and then on my side.  All 217 pounds of me!  I hope that the THUD didn't wake the neighbors.  Of course, the dog's thought that I was playing and they all started jumping on top of me.  That was a great help!!  My eye glasses fell of and got full of dust and dirt... my cap fell off and it didn't take long for the one dog, (Patches) to grab it up in his mouth and run away as fast as he could.  He later returned with it tightly clutched between his teeth and wanted to play tug o war.  Needless to say, I was not in the mood.  I had a devil of a time prying his jaws apart to retrieve my cap (all slobbered over), but luckily not tore up!

I figure that all of this is part of an early birthday gift.  I will be 76 years old on Sunday the 4th of November, 2012

I hope all of you had a better morning! Have a good day, the can man virgil baker

The Day After Sandy

Above is another pic of our home in Tucson.

Most all of the news is the east coast.  Some disastrous happenings!!  Kind of slowed down the presidential campaigns!!   I am sure glad to live in Arizona.
Above is two of my three grandchildren here in Tucson.  The youngest, Emmett Van Baker-Horton is on the left and Stefan James Baker-Horton on the right.

Until next time, travel safe, the can man, virgil (gino) baker

Yahoo!!!!

Yahoo!  No, I don't mean Yahoo on the internet---just YAHOO, it's great to wake up and be alive!!  I went out to feed the five dog's in the backyard this morning.  My one dog, Regalo (my fathers day gift 4 or 5 years ago) thinks he is King of the pack.  Sometimes when he does not feel like eating, he will "root" up the ground with his nose trying to push dirt up over the food to save it for a later time when he is hungry.  I think all similar animals do that.  I remember when I was a teenager--I and my two brothers were hiking on a mountain close to Young, AZ.  We came across some sheep remains that were half buried in the ground.  We could hear a lion scream from somewhere way off in the distance.  The lion had eaten what he wanted and attempted to bury the rest for later.  We had heard that some sheep had been lost in the area before we went hiking.  Needless to say, we did not tarry long in that vicinity.  We did not have any weapons with us.  I was probably about 12 or 13.  I walked and ran a lot when I was young.  That is probably why I have stayed fairly healthy throughout the years.  Then again---I have never smoked cigarettes.  Both of my brothers were smokers and I attribute smoking as the main cause of my younger brother Richard's death a few weeks ago.

I have acquired a couple of used dishwashers that may be in usable condition but I don't know if I could make any money on them so I probably will just take them apart and sell what I can to recycling.  I also have a used kitchen range that I picked up as a freebie that I also believe is in working order but probably will do the same with it.

I had a near new kitchen range when I left my home in Miami, AZ a few years ago.  The last time that I was up there a little over a month ago, it was still there but someone had taken two of the entrance doors off of the downstairs apartment so I don't know now if anything is left there.  You cannot see into the area from the street because of an out side board fence on the property but it is easy to get around the fence and go in.

You win some and you lose some....that's life!  Hasta la vista.......gino (the can man)

Blame it on old age.......

I apologize for my laxness (is that the word?), not getting anything new up here in such a long time!  We did get our new swamp cooler put in and it has worked efficiently up through the present time.  I wish that I was as efficient! Now it is almost time to start thinking about the home heating system.  My "elderly" bones can't take too much cold.  I usually wear short socks in the summer and I have to slit the tops so that they don't cut off circulation to my feet.  I don't know what that has to do with the price of tea in China!  And speaking of my feet,  (I was speaking of my feet before I got off on China!) I have lost feeling in much of both feet since some months back (it's been so long that I hardly pay attention to it anymore).
VA says they can't do anything about it.  But they are willing to cut my toenails every couple of months so that I don't injure myself because I have no feeling down there.  I love to be "babied".  Any other volunteers?  The only time so far that the VA cut my toenails, it was a beautiful female pediatrician.......no---I guess it was a podiatrician (that must be close!) Or maybe podiatrist.  Anyway, during the process--she asked me if I had lower back pain.  "of course, I have lower back pain--who doesn't at my age?"  Then she indicated to me that the lower back pain and the loss of feeling in the feet is related.  Yes, well I'm related too but I don't go around bragging about it!....

Election is coming up pretty quickly now.  I have always been a democrat so you know where my heart is and where my vote is going.  I hope that all eligible people get out and vote.  I don't care for who....just vote!!!

(Oh yes, Halloween is nearby so here is a pic of the front of our home in Tucson and a pic of my beautiful Tammy whom we lost about two years ago.)

I guess that so far in this segment....that I have made about as much sense as those people on Fox News on television which to my way of reckoning is "no sense".  So with that.....I'll catch you on the other side.....take care....Gino, the can man
