FRAGILE AND PRECIOUS

The movies were taken Nov 20, 2010 just before 9 p.m..After the dogs had already had their treat (Beggin Strips) I gave Tammy the empty bag and this was the result.............

I am 74 years old as of a couple of weeks ago and the tragic death yesterday of my Tammy puppy has really turned my life upside down.  Life is so fragile and precious.  She was so smart and so attentive and so loving.  How does a human let themselves be caught up in the love of an animal?  I don't pretend to know the answer but I do know that it will take a long, long time to put her in the back of my mind instead of the forefront.  I have to keep on going.  I have four other loving dogs and an immediate family that loves me very much.  I must move on and keep busy and occupy my mind with other things.  It will take time............

She loved to chase the rubber ball and she would
tease you to get you to take it away from her and
throw it again.  She was very agile and could
catch the ball in the air most of the time.

Last Pic of Tammy Alive
We lost Tammy today.  I had to have her put to sleep after she was hit by a car.  About 2:15 pm, I was getting ready to take the pickup truck to go meet Emmetts school bus up by Erickson School to pick him up and bring him home.  I had the back of the pickup (tailgate) open so the dogs could jump in.  I took Tammy, Regalo and Huera into the storeroom from the backyard and as I usually do, I reprimanded them to go straight to the pickup.  I opened the storeroom door to the carport and the three took off.  Huera and Tammy headed toward the next door neighbors yard (towards Mann Street) and Huera stopped by a tree where sometimes there is a cat hanging out.  But evidently Tammy seen someone across Mann Street that she wanted to bark at and she kept on going at a hard run.  I did not see her being hit but I heard it and it was a hard hit.  The driver did not stop or return to the scene.  I was crying Oh No!  oH NO! as I seen her laying out in the street.  I could not go immediately to Tammy as I had to get Huera and Regalo back in the yard.  As soon as I had them secure in the yard, I got in my pick up and drove over and parked next to Tammy.  Good samaritan neighbors had already brought a blanket over.  After they determined that I was the dogs owner, I told them that I had to meet a school bus to pick up Emmett.   They offered to take Tammy to the nearest vetenary which was Kolb and Golf Lnks (not too far from Frys Store).
I agreed and we wrapped Tammy in the blanket and I picked her up and handed her to this neighbor lady and told them that I would meet them down at the vets office in a few minutes.  I proceeded on up the street to meet Emmetts school bus.  I called Maytes cell phone, got hold of Enrique and told him that Tammy had been hit by a car.  Mayte was able to get on the phone a few seconds later and I told her about it. She told me that she was leaving right away from the Shop to come to where Tammy was.  Then Emmett arrived on the bus and came to the truck.  I had to tell him why the dogs were not with me (as they usually were).  We went from the bus stop straight to the vetenary office.  Tammy was on the table with an IV and Oxygen being applied.  I think she recognized that I was there as I rubbed her forehead.  She was bleeding internally and some blood had come out of the mouth.  Mayte arrived about 10 minutes after I got there and we both cried and tried to console Tammy.  The doctor there said the prognosis was not good, that if she survived, she would have to be in a vetenary hospital for some time.  The doctors opinion was a 40 to 50 percent chance of survival.  Mayte and I discussed options and I decided to put her to sleep.  Emmett was allowed in to say goodbye--that was a difficult moment-- and then Mayte went with Emmett back out front.  I signed the necessary papers and as I was doing that, Tammy had a seizure and I thought she was going to die right then but they managed to give her a shot that stabalized her.  A few minutes later the doctor told me that she was going ahead and put her down now.  I watched as she breathed her last breaths and a little of me died with her.  I loved her so much.  I have never lost a child but I cannot imagine it being much worse.  The other two dogs that she played the most with (Regalo and Huera) --- I think that they understand that she is gone.  They are giving me a lot of licks and staying close by me.  (I hope that Tammy is now with Linda and John)  May God Bless them all.

Birthdays

My Dear Friend Betty Gilbert (Birthday Girl)

My older Brother and His Wife

Betty & Me a Few Years Ago
Today is Betty Gilbert's Birthday---I think she is about a year older than I am.
I have known her since we were both in out early teens.  She lives in the Globe, Arizona area.  I try to make it up there every so often and take her out to lunch as she has no close friends or relatives in the area.  She lives alone (so to speak) as she has 3 dogs and a cat to keep her company.

The picture of my brother Earl Edward (Red) Baker and his wife Rose-----He passed away a few years back and Rose still lives in Payson, Arizona.

The picture below gives a little history about some of the country I grew up in and around!!  Double click and enlarge it for easier viewing.

Have a good day................

Golden Corral and Beyond

At Golden Corral
The last picture was taken at the restaurant.  The others were taken at home before going out.

My phone company (AllTel in the Globe area) is being taken over by AT&T so the new company has to give us all new phones (I think 4 total) on my contract.  Has to be done before the end of November I believe.  Phone numbers should remain the same.  All fun and games!!

Took my pick up truck to the tire shop this morning for rotation and balancing and asked them what they would charge for cleaning my battery post while they were doing the other.  $10.  So when I left I noticed that my little "engine light" warning was still on so I knew that they had not pulled the cables off.  I looked at it and they had cleaned around the post and the top of the battery only.  So I turned around and took it back and had them remove the cables and clean the terminals.  I wanted my $10 worth!!!

My alarm just went off and I have to get ready to go and meet my Grandson Emmett at his bus stop....see ya......

"My Tam Tam's (Tammy)"

I wish this had been a better focus!!!

Tammy Girl
Today is my 74th birthday.  How time flies when you are having fun!  I think that some of the best times of my life were the years that I was able to buy and sell non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, etc.) --including aluminum cans--which was a major part of the business.  Most of my buying was done on the San Carlos Indian Reservation.  A permit (at that time) cost $50 for 6 months.  Just before I had to quit the business the price went up to $100 per month.  That was one of the reasons that I quit buying but the main reason was my health---as I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer and had my prostrate removed.  That did not get it all so had to go thru a chemotherapy program at the U of A Cancer center.  Then they (my doctor at the VA Hospital) put me on Hormone treatments for several months. That has been several years ago now and so far I am "holding my own" (whatever that means).

So now I am waiting for my daughter to get off work.  She is going to take me and probably some more of our immediate family to the Golden Corral steak house for dinner.
